Is Prescott a Good Place to Retire for an Active Lifestyle?

Prescott is one of the best retirement towns for people who want to remain active. Outdoor recreation, organized activities, and community events make it easy for retirees to keep moving, meet people, and build a full weekly routine.

The city maintains more than 100 miles of trails, including routes through forests, around lakes, and across the Granite Dells. The 56-mile Prescott Circle Trail surrounds the city, while shorter and easier options allow residents to choose an activity that matches their comfort level.

Hiking is only the beginning. Prescott offers golf, pickleball, cycling, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, fitness classes, and recreation programs. Watson Lake, Willow Lake, and Goldwater Lake place several outdoor activities close to town. Prescott National Forest adds even more trails and scenic areas.

An active retirement also includes social and mental activity. Local colleges, museums, art groups, volunteer organizations, service clubs, churches, and veterans’ groups offer ways to learn and connect. Concerts, festivals, farmers markets, holiday events, and downtown gatherings keep the calendar busy.

Prescott allows residents to choose their own version of active living. One retiree may hike before breakfast, while another may attend an art class, volunteer, or walk around Courthouse Plaza. The important advantage is that Prescott provides plenty of choices—and very few excuses to spend retirement staring at the same four walls.
